What makes it funny?

The Bunnies congratulate Sam on her success while keeping her tied up. When they propose a toast, they have to account for the small inconvenience that their guest can't lift her glass. Their performance of generous friendship persists through threats and restraints.

The comedy at work

The Bunnies speak as a chorus, dressing literary envy in compliments and therapeutic language. They explain away their cruelty so smoothly that their account of events becomes a satire of writers protecting their own flattering version of the truth.

Try this if…

Readers who enjoy vicious campus satire and unreliable storytellers have plenty to work with here. The writing-program rivalries lead into stranger questions about what happens when an author's creations acquire voices of their own.

Good to know

You can read this independently, though it revisits and reinterprets Bunny. Captivity, drugs, blood, violent threats and sexual material accompany the comedy.
