Affiliate & editorial disclosure
The money side, out in the open.
HahaFiction is free to use. Here’s the honest rundown of where money comes in, and what it never gets a say in.
The short version
- We earn a small commission when you buy through our Amazon links.
- Nobody can pay to be listed or to get a better spot.
- Self-published, small-press and big-publisher books meet the same bar.
- Book pages are research summaries, not personal reviews.
Amazon links
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Every book page has an Amazon button with a note beside it saying it’s a paid link. “View on Amazon” goes to the specific edition we checked. “Search on Amazon” opens a search for the title and author when we couldn’t pin down one edition.
The links go to the US store. We don’t show prices, stock or Amazon ratings.
What money doesn’t touch
We don’t take payment to list a book, to place it higher or to say nicer things about it. Whether a book has an Amazon link has no bearing on whether it’s listed.
Self-published, small-press and big-publisher books all clear the same bar. Friends of HahaFiction, below, is the one thing that changes where a book sits on a shelf, and no money is involved.
Friends of HahaFiction
Some authors help out directly. They answer a short interview that we publish on their book’s page, or send us an ePub for our private research. Their books get a Friend of HahaFiction badge that says what they shared.
In return, the book gets a small boost in shelf order. It doesn’t change whether a book qualifies, what its page says or how we check it. Books where the humor is front and center still count for more, and we reshuffle shelves every Tuesday so every book takes a turn near the top.
Research, not reviews
Our book pages summarize what publishers, reviewers, authors and readers have said, checked against those sources. They don’t claim we’ve read a book unless that’s actually true.
We don’t publish star ratings, invented endorsements or promises that you’ll laugh. AI helps with research and drafting, and every page is checked against its sources before it goes live.
Covers and quotes
Cover images are there so you can recognize the book. We show them under fair use for identification and commentary, which isn’t a claim that the rights holder gave permission. When we found a cover on a publisher, author or library page, we credit it. If there’s no cover, you’ll see a simple title card instead.
Our descriptions are written in our own words. Short publisher quotes are clearly marked and link to the full description.
