What makes it funny?
Heather throws up on Dinnie and his carpet, then tries to reassure him that fairy vomit smells pleasant to humans. She and Morag still expect the sort of welcome they say fairies receive in Scotland.
The comedy at work
Old clan loyalties turn a dispute about fiddle playing into a reason to interfere with the humans. Millar switches between brief scenes of musical rivalry and fairy misbehavior, mixing traditional folklore with punk music.
Try this if…
Punk music, argumentative visitors and untidy city lives share the space here. This may suit readers who enjoy supernatural characters making ordinary social problems worse.
Good to know
The drunken mischief sits alongside serious subjects, including Crohn's disease, homelessness and cultural conflict.
