What makes it funny?
Readers in Book Recommendations credit the characters and crude jokes, singling out the wizard Moog’s extravagantly phallic business name. Novel Notions also points to the group’s puns and banter.
The comedy at work
The mercenaries have the reputation of rock stars returning for a reunion tour. Their old fame promises a spectacle, while their age and years apart give the comeback plenty of opportunities to go wrong. Novel Notions traces musical allusions through the adventure.
Try this if…
The friendship among the old crew gives readers something to care about between the monster fights. Musical references and irreverent exchanges add another reason to follow their reunion.
Good to know
Readers flag crass humor and describe an emotional mix of laughter, fear and tears. The rescue story reaches a conclusion within this volume, according to Novel Notions.
