What makes it funny?
Devan expects a lethal encounter at the feared sorcerer's castle. Instead, he gets tea and scones, followed by a sorcerer who pirouettes into the room and demands cuddles because his visitor failed to bring a kitten. Tan also claims to suffer from Severe Cuddle Deficiency.
The comedy at work
The supposedly dangerous sorcerer behaves like a cat who has chosen his human. Devan arrives to negotiate a rescue; Tan treats the visit as his chance to acquire company. Their mismatched intentions give the snarky dialogue a romantic purpose.
Try this if…
Readers who enjoy male/male fantasy romance, magical action and affectionate teasing have plenty to work with here. Scattered Thoughts highlights the snark and heart in the enemies-to-lovers relationship.
Good to know
This is the first individual installment of a six-part story. Each adventure has its own resolution, while the romance and Princess Serenity's story continue across the sequence. The Complete Works collects those installments and adds The Coronation, so check which format you are buying. Sherwood describes the angst as light, though the setup includes a threatened town and jokes about killing barbarians.
