That Guy
Penelope writes romances and thinks she knows exactly what a wealthy hero ought to do. When she finds Jake Swagger, she decides he can supply the inspiration for her next book and the love story for her own life. Jake has considerably less enthusiasm for the arrangement.

What makes it funny?
Penelope pictures a swooning first kiss, manages to lick Jake’s teeth, and then accuses him of being bad at kissing. Her confidence survives the evidence. Their argument gives him plenty of opportunities to point out what actually happened.
The comedy at work
Jones lets Penelope use romance novels as instructions for dealing with a man who hasn’t agreed to follow them. The narration also takes a swipe at familiar descriptions of irresistible heroes, right down to the supposedly seductive taste of their breath.
Try this if…
Readers in romance book groups recommend this among their funny-romance picks, including alongside Max Monroe. Its appeal is strongest if you enjoy a heroine who pursues the billionaire fantasy with embarrassing persistence and argues back when it goes wrong.
Good to know
This works as a standalone romance. Expect sexual content and swearing. Some readers find Penelope’s exaggerated behavior divisive, so your tolerance for a heroine who pushes past social boundaries matters.
