What makes it funny?
Banion's show needs four meetings just to choose an announcer. James Earl Jones won't do: Banion keeps hearing Darth Vader. Broadcasting authority requires a surprising amount of fussing over the voice that introduces it.
The comedy at work
The supposed aliens are government operatives protecting military and space budgets. Their hoax catches a pundit accustomed to looking down on everyone else's judgment, giving Buckley targets on either side of the television camera.
Try this if…
This suits readers who enjoy jokes about Washington status and bureaucratic self-interest. Kirkus praised the one-liners while finding the characters underdeveloped.
Good to know
The UFO plot centers on staged abductions by a secret government agency. Expect political and media satire built around that deception.
