Bridesmaid for Hire
by Meghan Quinn
Bridesmaid for Hire · Book 1 · 2024
Event planner Maggie Mitchell hopes to spend her Bora Bora vacation away from work. A lucrative wedding changes her plans, and getting involved means pretending to date Brody McFadden, her brother’s best friend and a man she can barely tolerate. He wants to impress his boss; she wants a career opportunity. Sharing her bungalow makes their arrangement harder to keep professional.

What makes it funny?
Maggie treats Brody’s outrage as an invitation to tease him. In the excerpt, his complaint about her announcing herself as his girlfriend turns into a sexual joke at his expense. Lisa Loves Literature also singles out his string of vacation mishaps, including seasickness and a spear-fishing outing.
The comedy at work
The couple need to look convincing in public while continuing their private arguments. Maggie’s lack of embarrassment gives her the upper hand in their exchanges, while Brody keeps landing in awkward situations even when he hasn’t caused them.
Try this if…
Readers who like fake dating with competitive career ambitions, antagonistic flirting and sexual humor have clear reasons to consider Maggie and Brody. The vacation setting gives their arguments room for physical mishaps as well as repartee.
Good to know
