Teleportation has left a former space hero struggling for paid work. Impersonating the notorious Jacques McKeown looks like a way to earn some money, until corporate and political schemes make the borrowed identity dangerous.

## What makes it funny?

The opening chapter gives the pilot an audience that refuses to admire him: tourists interrupt his heroic reminiscences with complaints. A sticky intercom button makes it difficult for anyone aboard to keep their contempt private.

### The comedy at work

Croshaw makes a glamorous space career into precarious service work. The narrator's dry delivery and the characters' sniping keep puncturing the heroic image, even as the adventure grows dangerous.

### Try this if…

Sarcastic narrators and space adventures that mock their own heroic conventions are the draw here. Readers in a LitRPG book group recommend its dry science fiction comedy and appreciate hearing Croshaw narrate his own work.

### Good to know

The opening preview includes sexual insults and a joke referring to a past suicidal crisis. The adventure also touches on environmental damage, the power of wealth, and bitterness about being replaced by technology.
