Retiring from the Army brings Tessa Treslow back to New Oslo, Idaho. She expects a family visit with her boxer, Vince. Instead, a man claiming rights to the family business dies in Aunt Edna’s auto shop, and Tessa starts asking questions while her former boyfriend handles the case as sheriff.

## What makes it funny?

At home, an experienced officer is still Aunt Edna’s childhood “Nug.” Family gossip and an ex-boyfriend in a position of authority give Tessa’s return its awkward, familiar pleasures.

### The comedy at work

The homecoming keeps putting Tessa’s adult independence beside the roles her relatives remember. Her easy relationship with Edna leaves room for teasing and gossip as the family deals with suspicion.

### Try this if…

A family-centered cozy for readers who like a small community and a cast spanning several generations, with personal ties complicating the investigation.

### Good to know

PTSD and bereavement are part of the story. Its treatment of those subjects remains uplifting, according to the Military Writers Society of America review.
