# Thief's Covenant

By Ari Marmell · Widdershins Adventures, book 1

Profile: https://hahafiction.com/books/thief-s-covenant-a761d709/

Widdershins has lived as an orphan, an aristocrat and now a thief. In Davillon, her only divine ally is Olgun, whose entire following consists of her. The city guard, her own guild and something from her past threaten the life she has rebuilt.

## What makes it funny?

A guard asks a subordinate to rescue him if necessary, even if his death would mean a promotion for the younger man. Widdershins has her own practical objection to a secret cult: keeping written records hardly helps it stay secret.

### The comedy at work

The story allows people facing danger to keep complaining and teasing. Widdershins scolds the god in her head as though he were an exasperating traveling companion, while his help tends toward small interventions and luck.

### Try this if…

A sarcastic thief and a god with limited reach make an appealing pair for readers who like clever dialogue inside a conspiracy plot. The adventure is aimed at teens, with wit that adult fantasy readers can follow too.

### Good to know

The opening prologue describes a massacre in graphic detail, despite the young adult classification.
