# The Road to Roswell

Francie arrives in Roswell hoping to help her friend reconsider a UFO enthusiast as a husband. Instead, an actual alien grabs her and makes her drive around New Mexico. Their journey gathers a motley collection of passengers as she tries to discover what her captor needs.

## What makes it funny?

A skeptic attending a UFO-themed wedding gets an abduction of her own, still wearing her neon green bridesmaid dress. Her captor resembles a tumbleweed with tentacles, and one fellow passenger is certain the alien has come to invade or probe them.

### The comedy at work

Everyone has an explanation for what's happening, but they don't agree. Francie's growing suspicion that the alien needs help sits alongside a believer's invasion fears, with a con man and other travelers adding their own priorities to the trip.

### Try this if…

Old Western references and a developing romance between Francie and the hitchhiking Wade accompany the alien trouble. The appeal is a crowded road trip in which getting to know the passengers matters as much as figuring out the destination.

### Good to know

This is a standalone, so you can begin here without reading Willis's other novels.
