Ruddy McCann repossesses cars and works as a bar bouncer in Kalkaska, Michigan, a long way from his days as a football hero. Then a murdered realtor starts talking inside his head. Alan Lottner wants his killers found, and Ruddy has an extra reason to feel awkward: he's falling for Alan's daughter.

## What makes it funny?

Alan brings a dead man's unfinished business and an unexpected interest in housekeeping. Finding his murderers apparently goes hand in hand with getting Ruddy to clean his apartment, and Ruddy cannot simply walk away from the nagging.

### The comedy at work

Ruddy supplies the wisecracking narration while Alan supplies a second opinion he cannot switch off. Outside his head, Kermit, his sister's boyfriend, mangles words with his malapropisms.

### Try this if…

A small-town murder mystery with a romantic thread and a low-energy basset hound makes room for readers who enjoy the people around a case as much as its solution. Ruddy's working life gives the supernatural problem a practical, unglamorous setting.

### Good to know

The comic voice accompanies murder and dangerous encounters, so expect real threats alongside the banter. Repo Madness continues Ruddy's story.
