Contract killer Leland takes an interest in private investigator Jackson after a surveillance job gives him an unexpected view of Jackson stuck on a fence. Their pursuit of a dangerous criminal draws them together, although Jackson knows he ought to turn Leland in.

## What makes it funny?

Jackson’s undignified introduction supplies Leland with a joke he refuses to retire. His courtship includes flowers and talk of an inflatable doll, making Jackson’s attempts to maintain professional distance increasingly difficult.

### The comedy at work

Leland treats a dangerous investigation as an opportunity to flirt. Jackson’s caution gives the outrageous banter someone to push against, while the romance develops alongside the criminal case.

### Try this if…

Readers who enjoy a male couple, sexually frank jokes and an extravagant flirt pursuing a more restrained partner have plenty to work with here.

### Good to know

Expect sexual humor, guns and a romance involving a professional killer. The crimes and injuries carry real danger within the playful setup.
