Durandal has spent millennia waiting for someone to claim the Godking’s legendary sword. When a prince finally arrives, the sword spirit refuses him and chooses Lucia, an enslaved squirrel-like beastwoman, instead. Her chance to inherit a hero’s power comes with a teacher who has very little patience left.

## What makes it funny?

The Godking’s treasure should justify an epic expedition. Durandal has spent his confinement using it up: spirit stones are gone, weapons have supplied materials for his hobbies, and the books have rotted. Lucia takes one look at the leftovers and doubts that this can be the famous inheritance. Readers in fantasy book groups also enjoy the absurd power and distractibility of the protagonist.
