# The Everything Box

By Richard Kadrey · Another Coop Heist, book 1

Profile: https://hahafiction.com/books/the-everything-box-4868e881/

Coop is a thief with a useful advantage: magic doesn't work on him. A job stealing a mysterious box puts that immunity to the test when supernatural rivals all want the same prize.

## What makes it funny?

The angel who mislaid a device capable of ending the world normally works in office supplies. Inept cultists and bickering officials make the recovery effort look less competent still.

### The comedy at work

Kadrey gives apocalyptic business to people with petty concerns and familiar bad habits. Ordinary arguments over jobs and stolen goods keep interrupting the grand designs of the supernatural factions.

### Try this if…

A taste for crowded capers helps. Crooks, cultists and bureaucrats all have plans for the box, giving the ensemble room for arguments and competing schemes.

### Good to know

This is a busy heist story with a large supporting cast; Kirkus found the cast and plot overcrowded.
