# Strip Tease

By Carl Hiaasen

Profile: https://hahafiction.com/books/strip-tease-6d008b45/

Erin Grant works as a dancer while trying to regain custody of her daughter. A congressman's intervention in a fight at her club creates an opportunity for blackmail. Erin gets caught between a dangerous ex-husband and powerful men with a scandal to hide.

## What makes it funny?

Congressman Dilbeck tries to play the gallant by hitting a club patron with a wine bottle. Elsewhere, a club's answer to competition is to have patrons wrestle dancers in creamed corn. Erin wants no part of that promotion.

### The comedy at work

Hiaasen puts politicians and wealthy business interests into a farce about appetites they can barely control. The people claiming authority give Erin plenty of reasons to distrust it.

### Try this if…

Political crime comedy for readers who like elaborate blackmail schemes and farce with a sharp opinion about who holds power.

### Good to know

The strip-club setting involves sexual material and harassment. Murder, violence and a custody conflict are central to the story.
