Rocky wants another week at the Cape Cod rental her family has returned to for years. Her grown children, husband and aging parents are together again, but she can't keep everything still: menopause brings abrupt changes, and memories she has kept private begin to press into the holiday.

Rocky puts a numerical range on how much her husband understands her: somewhere from a fifth to less than two-thirds. Even napping and opening yogurt can feel physically hazardous. Readers in book groups single out the family banter and descriptions, especially when Rocky's midlife frustrations resemble their own.
