# Pucked

By Helena Hunting · Pucked, book 1

Violet Hall knows enough hockey players to distrust their reputations, starting with her own stepbrother. His teammate Alex Waters complicates that rule: the team captain can talk literature as well as attract attention. Their planned one-night encounter grows into a courtship Violet hadn't meant to encourage.

## What makes it funny?

Violet rarely keeps a dirty thought to herself. MEReadALOT's review singles out her impulsive remarks, Alex's willingness to answer back and the extra trouble supplied by her protective stepbrother. Readers in a romcom book group likewise remember Violet as the comic attraction.

### The comedy at work

Hunting puts an outspoken woman opposite an athlete who frustrates her assumptions about brainless players. The romance develops through sexual frankness and teasing, with Violet willing to say the embarrassing thing aloud.

### Try this if…

A strong fit for readers who want an explicit sports romance with plentiful dirty jokes. MEReadALOT found sweetness beneath the toilet humor; enjoying Violet's lack of restraint is likely to matter as much as liking the hockey setting.

### Good to know

Expect explicit sex and sustained crude humor. The Under the Covers reviewer found Violet's narration tiring and the jokes forced, so the very quality that appeals to some readers may put others off. This opens the Pucked series and is described as a standalone romance.
