# Lights Out

By Navessa Allen · Into Darkness, book 1

After long shifts as a trauma nurse, Aly Cappellucci unwinds by watching a masked man's videos and imagining him pursuing her. Josh Hammond makes those videos, and a drunken invitation gives him reason to turn up in her home. Their shared fantasy grows more complicated when someone else takes an interest in Aly, with intentions she hasn't invited.

## What makes it funny?

Fred, Aly's cat, has his own priorities. The Mangoes and Mayhem review singles out his inconvenient need for the litter box and his dislike of men, with a pointed exception for Josh. Aly and Josh's banter adds a flirtatious running exchange to the stalking fantasy.

### The comedy at work

The alternating first-person viewpoints let Josh's anxious thoughts puncture his menacing presentation. A man who cultivates a frightening masked persona is also worried that he'll end up in jail. Knowing what he's thinking gives the reader a different view of the threat Aly sees.

### Try this if…

Adult romance readers who enjoy explicit sexual fantasy and obsessive attraction alongside teasing dialogue have plenty to consider here. An affection for cats with strong opinions helps, too.

### Good to know

The publisher labels this 18+ and warns of disturbing material. The author's list includes stalking, home invasion, hidden cameras and hacking, explicit sex, knife, gun and breath play, blood and gore, death and body desecration. It also includes references to off-page rape and past domestic and child abuse. Check the author's full warning list before choosing it.
