Kate inherited Goat Valley Campground and the job of keeping its visitors alive. Following her rules helps people avoid the creatures on the property, but one dangerous resident wants the land for itself.

## What makes it funny?

Kate has staff problems as well as monster problems. In the publisher excerpt, she leaves camper interviews to employees with better people skills, then hesitates to fire someone whose father is her dentist.

### The comedy at work

Kate handles supernatural trouble with the impatience of a manager who has explained the rules before. Her practical complaints make room for dry humor even when the creatures are dangerous.

### Try this if…

Folkloric monsters and rules with real consequences drive this story. Kate’s exasperated approach adds a workplace-comedy angle for readers who like capable people dealing with unreasonable demands.

### Good to know

Expect graphic violence, mutilation and harm to children. The matter-of-fact voice does not soften what happens to people who fall foul of the campground’s residents.
