A stranger overhears novelist Finlay Donovan talking to her agent and offers her $50,000 to kill a husband. Finlay is struggling with money, divorce and custody worries, but she has no intention of becoming an assassin. The misunderstanding still pulls her into a real murder case.

## What makes it funny?

Finlay’s suburb looks idyllic until her morning supplies the details: sticky children, a coffee disaster and a preschool haircut that has gone badly wrong. Even the revenge she imagines taking on her ex involves a toddler’s dirty diaper.

### The comedy at work

The mistaken-assassin setup becomes a farce in which ordinary responsibilities keep demanding attention during criminal trouble. Parenting, work deadlines and nanny arrangements remain practical problems even when Finlay has a body to deal with.

### Try this if…

A resourceful nanny helps an overwhelmed single mother through an improbable caper. Romance accompanies the suspense, and the antics ask for considerable suspension of disbelief.

### Good to know

The playful treatment includes sexual violence, drugging, revenge pornography and abusive relationships. Publishers Weekly cautions that some readers may find the light handling of those subjects uncomfortable.
