Harold wakes from a very long sleep to find that cultivation sects and martial artists have taken over the world he knew. He is an immensely powerful lich, and he would rather get back to resting than accommodate their ambitions.

## What makes it funny?

In the opening prologue, Harold presents raiding other people’s hidden libraries as a reasonable arrangement. He believes in sharing knowledge, provided most of it ends up with him.

### The comedy at work

Harold narrates his extraordinary achievements with enormous self-regard, then lets a petty complaint puncture the grandeur. Puns and dad jokes recur alongside the collision between his old magic and the new world’s cultivation rules.

### Try this if…

Readers who enjoy overpowered fantasy characters and irreverent takes on martial-arts cultivation have a particularly self-satisfied guide here. A taste for deliberately groan-worthy wordplay helps.

### Good to know

Harold’s scholarly manners accompany real cruelty. The prologue treats burned nations and lethal experiments on heroes as steps in his research.
