# An Adventure Brewing

By Jolly Jupiter · Beers and Beards, book 1

Profile: https://hahafiction.com/books/beers-and-beards-ff7f953c/

Pete was a brewer in Canada. Now he is a dwarf in another world, where the celebrated local beer tastes awful. Improving it should be a useful second career, but the dwarves regard their recipe as sacred. He wants to brew something worth drinking and build a tavern around it.

## What makes it funny?

Pete brings dad jokes to a culture with its own elaborate ways of being ridiculous. Dwarves seal business deals by spitting in their beards and shaking the wet beards together. Learning how to do business here means accepting considerably more than a strange handshake.

### The comedy at work

Dwarven pride in beer creates the very problem a knowledgeable brewer should be able to solve. Pete has practical expertise, enthusiasm and a fondness for puns; his neighbors have a taboo against changing the recipe. That collision keeps the brewing project tangled in social customs.

### Try this if…

For readers who enjoy crafting skills, building a business and getting to know the people around a tavern. Brewing methods and game-like progression take up real space, with friendship and frequent puns helping set the mood.

### Good to know

The first book begins with death, reincarnation and time in a mining camp; the tavern business takes a while to arrive. There are some monster fights and injuries alongside the cozy pleasures. Alcohol and brewing are central throughout.
