# Apocalypse Comedy

By Hunter Mythos · Gravity and Divinity System, book 1

Profile: https://hahafiction.com/books/apocalypse-comedy-cdbc5ca7/

Jay Luckrun’s attempt to get close to his high-school crush leads him into a much larger problem: becoming a Champion while dungeon monsters threaten the world. His new powers come with levels, skills and control over gravity, along with assassins who want Champions dead.

## What makes it funny?

A punch is coming, and Jay tries to buy time with a joke about an extended car warranty. His attacker feints and hits him anyway. The free opening chapter gives him plenty of pop-culture ammunition and very little ability to resist using it. Readers in LitRPG groups also single out the humor and the fun of listening.

### The comedy at work

Jay describes a bully as a background character and greets a mysterious golden invitation with chocolate-factory references. He keeps fitting the people around him into familiar story roles, even when he is the one getting beaten up.

### Try this if…

Choose this for a dungeon adventure led by a teenager who treats danger as another opportunity to joke. Readers in LitRPG groups have mentioned its humor alongside Rogue Ascension, another Hunter Mythos series.

### Good to know

The opening chapter includes bullying, bloody injuries and profanity. Readers reviewing the original serial differ on Jay’s self-awareness: some enjoy it, while others find his self-importance and the shifts in tone distracting. Those comments concern an early version. Readers in book groups have also found connections clearer after several Rogue Ascension books; that is a reading suggestion, rather than a required order.
