# An Unexpected Hero

By Rhett C. Bruno & Jaime Castle

Profile: https://hahafiction.com/books/an-unexpected-hero-0e6dad60/

Performer Danny Kendrick angers the wrong person and lands in a fantasy realm. A hag's ancient lute makes him a target for rival factions, leaving him to uncover its secret with the barbarian Curr and a System AI called Screenie.

## What makes it funny?

Screenie complicates the usual job of guiding a newcomer through game rules. Danny has an AI companion that seems as interested in getting him into trouble as helping him out.

### Try this if…

Power develops slowly as Danny learns his assigned Class. The companions and the mystery of the ancient instrument accompany that gradual progression.

### Good to know

The audiobook performers include Jeff Hays, Justin Thomas James, Annie Ellicott, and Ian M. Walker.
