Rayne Connors and Madison Howlett have four months to get married, then a further deadline for pregnancy: their grandmother has attached those conditions to a $300 million inheritance. Rayne’s new romance gives her sister something to sabotage.

## What makes it funny?

Madison approaches the family contest with extravagant entitlement and increasingly outrageous schemes. Private resentments become a competition with money, romance and far too much incentive to interfere.

### The comedy at work

The inheritance rule turns marriage into a race, then gives every romantic development an opponent. As Rayne moves forward, Madison finds another way to obstruct her.

### Try this if…

For readers who enjoy rich relatives behaving badly, elaborate sabotage and the excesses of a television soap.

### Good to know

The campy scheming shares space with more serious attention to Rayne’s relationships and doubts. Kirkus notes that these shifts can be abrupt.
